Origin of name:Estados Unidos Mexicanos name was influenced from their American neighbors, the United States of America. The United States, like Mexico fought for their independence from the Europeans as well so, Mexico decided to model their name like the United States’s.

Represents: The green represents hope and love, the white represents peace and honesty, the red represents bravery and valor. The eagle with a snake in its mouth that is resting upon a cactus in the white portion of the flag is the coat of arms. This originates from the ancient Aztecs who believed that settlement had to occur in an area where one could see an eagle eating a snake on top of a cactus, which is where they founded Tenochtitlan, present day Mexico City.
